Can anyone recomend some pretty plants for damp ground?

i have some marshy patches in the garden that i would like to plant. The patches tend to dry out in the summer, but I would like some plants that will last all year round.

i'd also prefer native plants.

Marsh Marigolds, Ragged Robin, Pink Meadow Sweet, Ladys Smock, Gunnera, Hosta, Dogwood, Primula, Iris, Lobelia, Astilbe, Ferns, Umbrella plant, Purple Loosestrife

are all moisture loving plants, check before buying though on whci soil they prefer as some prefer acidic.
Reply:Ajuga, primrose (darker colours seem to be more moisture tolerant), dogwood, lonicera, hydrangeas, chaenomoles, ranunculus, geranium sanguineum. I have all these in a part of the garden which is wet in winter and drier in summer. they all do well.



If you want height - birch trees do it too.
Reply:What you are probably looking for are known as "marginal plants", i.e. ones which go around ponds and quite like their feet in water but don't like to be submerged.

A trip to your garden centre must the best idea so that you can actually see them "in the flesh".

An annual which is bright and cheerful is the "Mimulus" or monkey flowers - small, brightly coloured and spotted - to interspace with perenniels while they become established.

Primroses, primulas, cowslips, although planted in borders actually enjoy damp ground.
Reply:HOSTAS ARE NICE AND NATIVE AS WELL. ALSO FERNS LOVE SOME SHADE AND MOISTURE. MOST OF THE PLANTS THAT LIKE THOSE CONDITIONS DONT LAST ALL YEAR BECAUSE WHEN THE COLD WEATHER COMES AND THE GROUND FREEZES, THEY WOULD ROT AND DIE.
