How long after planting brocolli plants do they usually produce heads?

Mine have been in about 6 weeks, have large leaves, are quite big plants but no sign of a head developing or flowers. I am in zone 6.

You are close - unless it was really cold when you put them out or really hot, you only have maybe 1-1/2 more weeks to wait. Now - just as a thought - if you planted Broccoli Rabe - then you have a plant more like spinach and there will not be a head as it were....
Reply:It depends on how hot it is. Plants usually don't make babies until it's hot. My basil, for example keeps trying to go to seed but I'm not ready for it to be done! Wait until it gets warmer and it should produce.
Reply:brocolli is a cool time of year plant, having large leaves you may have to much nitrogen, 60-70 days is the normal time for producing.
