What type of plants can I put in saturated soil?

I have an area that is direct sunlight but is constantly wet. The soil has a high clay content that often sticks together in clumps. I'm trying to find fruit-bearing plants that can survive there. We tried flowers, lost 3 butterfly bushes and are really at a loss as to what to plant there. Would it be ridiculous to build it up higher? What suggestions can you give me? Thanks!

Sounds like you have a marginal water garden already in place...Lucky you!

Marginal or moisture-loving plants can be divided into 3 groups: paludal or marsh plants which like to keep their feet in the water; waterside plants which grow happily in moist areas; and moisture-loving (border) plants which seek humidity without wanting to actually live in wet earth.

Here's a good list for plants in such a location, depending on your zone.

Acorus, (Acorus calamus)

Marsh marigold (C. alustris)

Iris laevigata (Sweet flag)

White arum lily (Zantedeschia aethiopica) ...

Feel free to check the links for more.
Reply:try "hardy hibiscus" also known as "swamp rose"........they would love and thrive in the place u just descibed! oh yeah and when they bloom they are so beautiful!
Reply:Sounds like you may have an underground spring or artisan well. If that's the case consider putting in a small pond. If that isn't the case, Maybe building it up is the answer. But if it's always wet even when it doesn't rain, the water must be coming from somewhere. Underground pipes?
