How to rid my plants of japanese beatles?
When you see them on your plants in June and July, pick them off into a cup of soapy water. Then, put milky spor on your lawn in the Fall to kill the beatle grubs. You won't have them eating your garden the following year.
Reply:The bags do more harm than good. They will attract all the beetles in the neighborhood. Buy a spray containing Sevin. There are also fertilizer spikes that contain insecticide that you can pound into the ground around your rosebushes. They will keep bugs away all summer. Check at Lowes or Home Depot or a nursery.
Reply:One mistake people make with the bags is to place them near the plants that have the Beetles on them thinking this will pull the beetles away from the plants into the bag. This is untrue. It only attracts more toward your plants. You need to get the bag away from the plants that have the beetle infestation. Put them away from the plants and it will draw the beetles away from your plants. You can also buy beetle spray, found most commonly at Home Depot or other Garden Centers.
Reply:If you are not in to using pesticides one thing that is safe that can be done and works very well is to take a pair of old pantyhose and cut one of the legs off them and put in some regular selfrising flour and then shake the panty hose over the plants that the beetles are eating on and the rising agents in the selfrising flour will kill the beatles. Just cover the foilage of the plants good and when the beatles eat the leaf tissue they will also get a taste of the self rising flour and it will begin to go through the rising process inside their guts and kill them. I hope this helps as it works well for any leaf earting pests on vegetables and vines etc.. as even the larvae forms of certain inscets like cabbage worms will eat this household staple and it will do a number on them.
