What are some safe plants for small children?

My home used to be filled with beautiful plants. I wasn't sure which were poisonous or not, so when my kids (aged 3 and 2) came along, I got rid of them all. Boy, do I miss them!

Can anyone recommend some beautiful non-toxic houseplants that I might try?

What are some safe plants for small children?
actually, youd be surprised just how few houseplants are actually toxic. even the ones that are mostly need to be ingested in such large quantities to be dangerous that its unlikely a child would become ill. a lot of them taste really bad ,too. ****someone above suggested that tomato plants would be a good choice---TOMATO PLANTS ARE TOXIC! only the fruit is edible. same goes for potatos and eggplant--they are all memebers of the deadly NIGHTSHADE family...... some plants that are potentially poisonous (and that should be avoided just to be on the safe side) are: Amaryllis, all chrysanthemums, english ivy, deffenbachia, philodendron (some kinds), poinsettia (in large quantities only), castor bean, crown-of-thorns, jerusalem cherry, foxglove(digitalis),holly, aloe vera (in large quantities only), angels trumpet(datura). morning glories, daffodils.most other plants should be safe, but id recommend that you google the plants name first before you bring it into your house. but dont give up having houseplants altogether--they are great toxin filters and oxygen enhancers.
Reply:herbs are really good...esp mint, itll leave ur house/garden smelling good and mint is used for cooking among other things. I would talk to your closest flower nursery specialist. have your kids help u plant them..explain to them it's to look not eat!
Reply:Herbs, tomato plants and other vegatables, also, pansy and marigold are ok to eat. Look for tiny tim and micro tom tomato seeds and plants as these are bred to stay small for containers and will not grow you out of your house. Also, the kids will love to pick the tomatoes and eat them. Try a yahoo or google search for them or you can go to www.tomatobob.com or ebay for seeds.
Reply:If you live in CA, then you should be able to grow several different varieties of Fuchsia. The flowers are actually edible. If you contact your local garden center they could easily let you know which plants in your area would be acceptable also.

Good luck!

Reply:we had ferns i always played with when i was little but i guess it depends if they're the type to eat everything in their path or not...
Reply:have you ever heard of an air fern? it just grows, no matter what mostly. all it needs is air. i grew up with carivourous plants, just be sure your kids dont try to feed it a poisonous insect or hazerdous insect. they are neat. been colecting and growing them scince i was a kid.
Reply:Your kids are at the age of curiosity. I don't know that any plant that would not hurt them.

Maybe some of the prettier herbs or sweet

potatoe vine.
