I love Texas sage. it is great for hot, dry climates and can go quite a while without water. i know they have pink, white, or purple flowers with a silver/green foliage. this plant smell wonderful and can bring hummingbird and butterflies too.

Reply:How about cactus any kind really. they require little water and if they can grown in the desert they should be able to grow where you are! once they start to grow they are easy to propagate.................Good Luck
Reply:If the river is on your probperty mabe you could get a generator and some pvc pipe and a couple of overhead sprinklers and water that way. Other wise you need to buy succulents such as, Opuntia ellisiana=Prickly Pear, Santolina, Rubus=creeping Raspberry, Sedum kamtschaticum, Sedum tetracticum, Sedum Jellybean, Sempervivum=Hens%26amp;Chicks, Lambs Ear,Yucca varigated, Agave, Moss Ross, same as portulaca. These plants can take extreme dry conditions, although when you first plant these you will need to water them in and fertilize with time released fertilizer, this is very important, sprinkle recomended amount in to the hole, add water and cover with soil, hopefully you can put pine straw around these plants in order to preserve as much moisture in the so as possible. Hope this helped alittle!!!!!
Reply:If your area does not suffer from killing frost or severely low temperatures the greatest profit margin (and longest time investment as well!) is realized from palm trees.
Reply:If by profiting plants, you mean cash crops, I would look into crops that are naturally found in dry areas and which are the source of up-and-coming products for modern lifestyles. I am thinking of crops like Hesperaloe, which is starting to be used as a modern fibre for high-quality paper such as might be used for new paper currency; Jojoba which is native to the Southwest USA desert regions, used in makeup, shampoos, and so forth; Hoodia plants from the Kalahari Desert of South Africa and Namibia, the latest product in weight-loss fads; Aloe vera used in suntan products and burn medications; and Agave also known as Sisal and used to make fibre products like rugs. [Aloe %26amp; Agave are actually old ideas but may still have possibilities.]
Reply:best bet ornamental (SP?) prairie grasses ,.........switch grass,,,,big blue stem ....indain grass..
