What are some hardy plants that I could put on my porch?

I live in the south east and I want to put some plants on my porch that is in the hot southern sun about 50% of the day. Any ideas? Also, what are some hardy herbs I can have out there? I already have a fern. They do well .

Try Wave Petunias. They look awesome, bloom all summer long, never need to be dead headed, come in a wide variety of colors, and take a hell of a lot of abuse.

If they go without water and the soil dries, they will fall down and begin to wilt, but they have to be dry a long time to actually kill them. If they're wilted, a quick watering will make them stand right back up.

Look at the tags when you buy them. Some varieties can handle more sun than others.
Reply:Geraniums, Lantana, Daylilies, Lavender, Canna lilies, and any succulents. I have an Agave in a pot in the full sun at the top of a hot driveway that handles the heat beautifully.

Some herbs are rosemary, chives, parsley, garlic, thyme and oregano.
Reply:you can try some cacti they hardly need any water
