Hybiscus plants in my back yard died I think. What can I do next time?

I had 3 pretty hybiscus plants die in my garden. The temperature only got down to 28 degrees a few times this winter. I had the plants covered with frost cloth, but I did not cut the plant way back to the ground. I had them covered. Do you you think it is to cold in Spring, Texas to raise hybiscus plants?

Hibiscus plants are hardy. But... They need to be cut back all the way to the ground in the fall if you want them to come back. As soon as they die off in the late fall cut them back.New growth comes out of the ground at the base of the plant. Cut them back now and you should get late season growth. It gets to -20 degrees where I live in NY and yet as long as they get cut back they double in size every year.
Reply:hibiscus is a tropical plant so put inside before cold.
Reply:If you have a tropical hibiscus you will see regrowth. If you have dead stalks from last year, cut them down.

If you have a hardy hibiscus there should be no problem.
