What are some extremely easy and fast growing freshwater plants?

I'd like to decorate my 20 gallon freshwater tank with some easy and fast growing plants. Which plants would you suggest and how/where could I attain them? I also need good plants for eggs and fry.

For the most part, "fast growing" and "easy to keep" aren't synonymous with plants, however, Water Sprite, Hornwort, and most Hygrophila species fit the bill perfectly. They'll grow fabulously under even standard fluorescent tubes (if you have incandescent bulbs, don't even bother), sucking nitrate and phosphate out of the water, preventing algae from getting a foot in the door, so to speak. For some super easy, slower growing plants, try Java Moss, Taiwan Moss, Christmas Moss, or pretty much any other truly aquatic moss, Java Fern, Anubias, Crypts, Banana Plants (Nymphoides aquatica), or lilies (Nymphaea species).
Reply:The speed of plant growth depends on the nutrients available for the plants. These include but are not limited too lighting, CO2, Nitrate, Iron, Zinc, Potassium, and other nutrients. If this is your first time dealing with live plants I recommend that you start off with a few hardy low light plants like Java Fern or Anubias Nana. Reply:mosses are great for eggs and fry and most are pretty easy to grow.



if you have 1-2 watts per gallon, you could try anubias, they're very hardy... or java ferns. there are a few swords that can tolerate lower light, a rosette sword comes to mind.



with less light than that, you might have difficulty with anything.

Reply:All plants grow better and faster if you put them in a room with a purple light bulb it is a proven study and i just learned it in science it will increase the production of photosynthesis and help them grow to there fullest potential you can get these at a plant store or gardening store
