Want to put a small plants on my office desk. I hope to have something that need little care and attention. And it needs little sunlight. It must be a real plant.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks!
What is the ideal plants to put on office desk?
Pothos....one of the easiest plants to grow, inexpensive and readily available year 'round at the flower shop of your local grocery.
It doesn't need much attention, just pick off the occasional dead leaves. It thrives in low light with sporadic waterings. I water mine with the last of my black coffee before I go get another cup! It seems to love caffeine
It tolerates not being watered over a long weekend.
You can grow cuttings in a carafe of just water or leave it in it's pot.
Before you know it the tendrils will be attractively draped around your office. Mine have grown to 17 feet long in about 3 years. I keep it curled up and it looks nice and bushy. I give out cuttings to anyone who wants some to help keep it "tamed".
If it should get too long, just enjoy it at home and get another for your desk.
Reply:Well I WOULD have said plastic, but since you want a real plant I say go with something in the Succulent family. Not necessarily a cactus, more like an aloe or crassulaceae. They are so neat looking and require very little maintenance.
Or if you have snooping coworkers perhaps a pricklier plant. They will still bud beautiful flowers. :)
Succulent plants, or succulents, are water-retaining plants adapted to arid climate or soil conditions. Succulent plants store water in their leaves, stems and/or roots. The storage of water often gives succulent plants a more swollen or fleshy appearance than other plants, also known as succulence. In addition to succulence, succulent plants variously have other water-saving features.

Zamioculcas zamiifolia 'Emerald Fronds' ,'Z Z Plant' An amazing aroid from Africa. Superficially resembles a cycad hence the genus and species name. Produces 2'-3' long pointed spears line with alternating shiney dark leaves. Grows from an underground tuber. Has tolerated subfreezing temperatures down to 24 degrees planted outdoors and returned the following spring. Makes great houseplants because it grows well in containers, can tolerate low humidity, low light, and needs little water and little fertilizer. Full shade to medium sun. Zone 9 and higher. ** Better Homes and Garden Magazine claims the "ZZ" plant is the houseplant of the future.
