What are some good plants, flowers, bushes that could be used for landscaping?

I'm trying to find some good plants, flowers and bushes to fill flower beds along the front side of our house. We don't really want to spend to much money. Something simple with color. If you have any suggestions please let me know...thanks!

It would be easier if we knew if the spot is shady or sunny.

Daylillies will grow in either and they do multiply. If you want a shrub, the weigela is very pretty but needs sun. It attracts hummingbirds, but it will grow 4-6 ft. tall with a 5 ft spread, so it may be too tall. Another pretty flower is the bearded iris. They do have a short bloom time tho. Go to a farmers market or a discount department store in the spring and look at what they have to offer. If you don't want to replant every year make sure you get perennials, but check to see if you are in the proper zone for these flowers. I try to get small plants because they are cheaper. Just remember when planting perennials, the first year they sleep, the second year they creep and the third year they leap. Good luck. This time of year I wish I had gobs of money and about a two acre yard because there are very few flowers that I don't love.
Reply:A lot of the suggestions you might need depends upon your situation and climate. Perhaps a trip to your local nursery would help for suggestions fro your area. You can also get advice as to what would look good where in your garden. Many of the local nurseries have people trained in landscaping.
Reply:Lily's are always nice..and very hearty..not too mention they will multiply each season..but be sure to check your climate and make sure they are good for your area. Butterfly bushes are fantastic too..and yes, they do really attract butterflies.
Reply:I love the spirea bushes. They flower all summer long and come in several varieties with flowers ranging from bright pink to light pink to white.
