What are some good plants for a small patio?

I also dont have a lot of time to care for lots of plants but would like to have a pretty patio to go sit on and relax. I live in Texas if that helps and the patio is a ground floor patio about a 6' by 10' space and I have a small couch and 2 chairs out thair as well.

With any container, especially in Texas where it can be hot and dry, you'll need to water it daily. Just do it before you leave in the morning or when you come home late in the afternoon. I find watering makes me take time and enjoy my flowers!

Having said that, I love the kind of petunias that will cascade down from the containers. Put a spike or some kind of grass for some vertical contrast in the center of the container. I'd also fertilize once a month to keep the petunia flowers in full vigor.

Another option is to go to a good garden center and pick up a pre-made container that strikes your fancy.

Whatever you decide, have fun and enjoy the flowers!
Reply:tomatoes and peppers.fun to grow and eat.
Reply:Miniature roses, Geraniums are good candidates. They are easy and pretty for a long time. You water and do deadheading(Take spent flowers off), give them some food once in a while, then they will be happy as a clam. You must care for any plants, since they are living things, especially when they are planted in pots. You can do it!
Reply:Marigolds plain and simple they come in a variety of colors an with stand heat and they like to be in a pot or in the ground. They also are supposed to help keep mosquitoes away.....Easy to grow and they don't need to be constantly tended to. If you go for longs period of rain ya might wanna throw some water on them.
Reply:Potted plants around my yard include:

1. Partial to deep shade: hostas http://www.bagohammers.com/dirt/archives... Perennial. Will spread. Moist, rich dirt.

2. Sansevieria (mother-in-laws' tongue). Perennial. Will spread. Bright shade. Tolerates neglect. Bring indoors in winter. http://www.hydrotip.de/datenbank/gross/S...

3. Sweet potato vine. http://www.flickr.com/photos/amarshwren/... Full sun. Spreads enormously; one plant can cover 10 square feet. Comes in green, red, purple. Annual.

4. Purple heart, purple queen (Tradescantia pallida). http://www.uky.edu/Ag/Horticulture/garde... Full sun. Perennial.

I also put red dianthus ("pinks") http://www.flickr.com/photos/yashrg/1826... in pots. They like full sun.

Indian Blanket flowers http://www.flickr.com/photos/maynard/529... do well in full sun and dry soil.

I don't use petunias; they always die on me! I can grow everything else except petunias.
