All of my outside plants look like they are dying. It seems like every plant that I fertilized with miracle gro looks the same way. I followed the directions on the package and even used the miracle gro garden sprayer. The weather was hot for a week so I thought that they got burned from the heat (normal is 70 and it was over 90). For the last week it has been raining and more are turning brown, it seems like everything I watered is looking bad. I don 't know what to do, the brown leaves are making my yard look unkept.
Why are some leaves on my plants are brown and dying?
Could be they got fertilizer-burnt, or sun-burnt if you watered the leaves in the heat of the day.
It could be lack of water if your soil doesn't retain water. Ironically, it could also be too much water - the symptoms appear the same, as too much water cause the roots to rot and die, then there are fewer roots to pull the water up to the leaves, and in spite of the fact that the roots are drowning, the leaves die from lack of water. Inexperienced gardeners see the leaves wilting, assume they're thirsty, and water - which compounds the "drowning roots" porblem.
If it rained, and then you also watered, my bet is on too much water. One inch of water, once a week, if plenty if there is no rain. If in doubt, dig down into the soil. If you reach moist soil before you are two inches down, you don't need to water yet.
Reply:Gee... First thing, never use Miracle-Gro.
I'd water them early or late in the day instead. But first make sure you aren't just dealing with dry plants. You may be dealing with a wilting fungus
Reply:You did not say shade or sun.....If you water while the sun is out that will burn the plants. Also I find it best not to put the Miracle Gro on the leaves. Too much water %26amp; not enough water can have the same results. Pay close attention to sun, shade, well drained. I know the rain this past week is too much for many of my plants, I have been cliping brown leaves too. Transplanting plants at the wrong time of the year will turn plants brown. I was given some plants and they too turned brown ( but they will be fine next year). Late Aug is the best time to transplant. There are many web sites you can go to for where to plant what ever there is out there. Good Luck %26amp; Happy Gardening!!!!
Reply:It may be a root problem. If they are in a pot, then re-plant them in fresh soil, or you can get some Root Stimulator and water them with it, it will give them stronger root system and be able to eat the miracle grow better. It could be stress from the heat. water them early in the morning and the ground around them to keep cool through the day.
